Evaluation of strabismus related to medical, ocular, or neurological disease in adults requires a deep understanding of the sensorimotor system, optics, awareness of associated medical or ophthalmic conditions, a keen ability to listen to the patient, and good listening skills enabling the certified orthoptist to recognize the individual needs of the patient. In this course, orthoptists from across the country, with over a century of cumulative experience, will share their clinical techniques, observations, pearls and pitfalls, enabling all clinicians to interact with these complex patients effectively, compassionately, and efficiently.

Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

  1. Perform appropriate clinical tests to aid in arriving at the correct diagnosis
  2. Interpret the findings of your clinical testing to determine a working differential diagnosis.
  3. Understand the significance of determining fusion potential, especially if surgery is anticipated, and understanding how to use the sensory tests available to assess it.
  4. List the various options for non-surgical treatment of symptomatic strabismus in adults and understand when each is indicated or contraindicated.
